Seriously...

I really enjoy reggae music. Really. HOWEVER. I do not understand the mentality of people (non-African American, non - Jamaican etc.) who embrace the messages, lifestyle, and political views embedded in this music as though it were their OWN. I can understand empathizing, sympathizing, with this music because of all it stands (stood) for, but really?! Look to your OWN history for songs of empowerment. ANY song sung in Hawaiian language is a song of resistance. It resists the mentality that would have us shed our culture and assimilate like good little girls and boys. A song sung with Hawaiian lyrics that INCLUDE political views, AND cultural empowerment??! They go STRAIGHT to the top of every single one of my many playlists. Like Sudden Rush. Kupa`aina. Kaulana Na Pua. 'Nuff said.
